The following is reprinted from the update I received in the mail from Bro. Mike Poirier, BMAA missionary to Quebec. Bro. Poirier is a friend, and I love the ministry he is doing among the French-Canadian people. I am posting this to encourage more people to pray for and support the ministry in Ste-Marie, Quebec.
We thank everyone for the prayers for the souls of our French speaking people here in Quebec, Canada. We have been very busy and that’s one reason for this late letter. When we think of all the work involved in reaching people with maximum impact, you need to invest time, energy, and money. During the month of June we handed out 8,600 invitations for Christ with the help of Pastor Roy Hill and some of his dear folks from Calvary Baptist Church of Conway, AR. These people took a week of their holiday and at their own expense to come and work with us.
Luke 14:23 – “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.”
From our “Maximum Impact” we had the opportunity to follow up on some leads and some are interested in coming to church. One lady called me while doing door-to-door in Levis, and asked me if we were the Baptist Church. I told her we were in Sainte Marie and she said that it is too far for her to go (she lives 45 miles from Sainte Marie). I told her that when her vacation is over I would come back and talk to her, and see what we could do. Another call was from the Catholic priest of the same town. He was upset and called us a cult and another word that is not worth saying. This conversation lasted 15 minutes. After I took the lead in the conversation he hung up. We had good preaching each evening and people filled the altar each night. The Lord was at work. We pray that many lives will come to know the Lord due to the spreading of the Gospel.
In the month of August I will be taking another trip to Haiti with the purpose of sharing the Gospel with people, and giving them hope with the help we can offer them in trying to create jobs and help them to provide for themselves. (A preacher reminded me of this saying, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, but if you show him how to fish, you feed him for life.”) Bro. Phil Knott and I have some good ideas concerning the relief of the Haitian people.
We are also at the point to print our first large print Ostervald French Bible. Amen! Years of work, and now it is come to reality. Pray for our new converts: Eric, Solange, Alain, Marcel, Mona, Doris, and the Gaston family that trusted Christ in Port-au-Prince.
Thanks and Concern
We thank all who give and pray regularly for our ministry. Without you we would not be where we are. We have passed through some difficult times these past few months and I would ask you to pray especially for our support. We are aware of many hurting financially through these economic times and we know that it takes sacrifices on all of our part. We are ready to do without for the Lord, please know that we are not complaining. If you receive this letter and are not one of our financial givers, and the Lord impresses upon your heart to help us, it would be an answer of prayer. If you are not able to give financially, then please continue to pray for us and that God will provide for our needs. Thank you and may the Lord bless!
For the cause of Christ,
I have been to their church, I have seen the work they are doing, I know their heart for the lost, and I highly recommend Bros. Poirier and Leclerc and Église Baptiste de la Nouvelle Beauce. Please pray for and consider supporting this important ministry in Quebec, Canada!
