So, we have a new name, Rejoicing in Truth. I was never quite satisfied with the blog title The World inside My Mind. To me, at least, that title made it sound as though the whole thing was focused on me. Certainly, I write from experience about things that I know and learn, and things that God does in my life. But hopefully, even in writing about my experiences, the focus is on God and His Truth, rather than my opinions.
I began looking for a new name, something that better reflected the direction I hope to go. After coming up with a few new names and redesign concepts, I realized that those names were taken.
Some of the passages of Scripture that have most challenged and encouraged me in recent years have been those that point to God’s Truth and direct us to walk therein. Yesterday, I inadvertently ran across a few such verses.
“For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth” (III John 3, NKJV).
“But let us follow the Truth, in love, and in all things grow up into Him which is the Head—that is, Christ” (Ephesians 4:15, Geneva).
“[Love] does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth” (I Corinthians 13:6, NKJV).
These verses tell us that God’s Truth is something we are to follow after joyfully. John wrote that he was joyful when he heard that his fellow believers knew and obeyed the truth. Paul wrote to the church at Corinth that love rejoices—takes joy—in the Truth. And he wrote to the church at Ephesus that Truth, if pursued in a loving manner, will lead us to grow in Christ, bringing us the joy of an ever-closer walk with our Lord and Savior.
“The truth hurts” is a commonly-used phrase, and sometimes it does. However, God’s Truth—even if it confronts us, convicts us, and requires us to change course—will set us free and will bring us joy and peace. The Bible shows us that Christians ought to speak and follow the Truth of God’s Word in a humble and loving way, and be joyful that He gives us the privilege of doing so! That brought me to the new name, Rejoicing in Truth.
As we talk about God’s work in Norman and what He teaches us along the way, our hope is that we will all take joy in God and His eternal Truth.
