Missing the Point of Jesus

I spent this morning and the better part of the afternoon infiltrating the Southern Baptists. Actually, I attended part of the BGCO’s State Evangelism Conference up in Moore; I just felt that using the word infiltrate made for a more dramatic opening.

Not only was I encouraged by hearing from fellow church planters in some of the classes, but we also heard a great message from Dr. Ed Stetzer of Lifeway on the “ministry of reconciliation” discussed in II Corinthians. He spoke of the importance of both demonstration and proclamation of the Gospel. We must show people the love of Christ through our actions, and tell them of the love of Christ as revealed in His actions on Calvary. Not one or the other. Both.

To that end, I want to share one thought from his message today, “Any ministry done in the name of Jesus that does not lead people to the cross of Jesus, misses the point of Jesus.”
